Mute land is a series of drawings with ballpoint pen, liquid and explosive collages attempting to capture the drive, the desire, frenzy, ecstasy and desperation of a society on the brink of destruction. The drawings are made with ballpoint pen (BIC M10) on paper and have been shown at G-Gallery in Houston, Texas, US and in a soloshow in Galleri Nils Åberg in Gothenburg (2015).

The works above vary in width but are all 60 cm high.

ENGLISH:

Josefin Rasmuson draws with blue and black ballpoint pen on paper. The process is slow and the images are developed almost as sculptural objects as new layers are added. Whatever is drawn can’t be cleared of, erased, but only be adjusted out of focus, pushed further back into the visual field. At the same time this is the imagery of an explosive present and excitement. Time and rythm are central.

Rasmusons imagery connects to something in our time, the search for the newest, the strife to succeed, to be seen and aknowledged. There is something beautiful and tragic in this struggle for something ephemeral and almost unreachable. Happiness and ecstasy, the intensity of life, dreams and desperation. As in Rasmusons earlier works we also find the notion of a sort of momentum, a sense of ”no tomorrow” or point after with the spinning wheels can’t be stopped.

Parallell to the work with the drawings a explicitly sculptural experiment took place. The idea was to extract those element from the drawings that had come to symbolize the targets of our desires. In the drawings, as example "Crying boys" (see second row to the left, above) these are the shimmering threads/ objects that come out of the boy's head.

As the work with these objects continued after the show at Nils Åberg they finally amounted to a completely new series of work; Playful, sexy.
